Harry Denny
Please join me in congratulating Harry Denny, associate professor of English and director of the Writing Lab, for winning the International Writing Centers Association Outstanding Book Award for Out in the Center: Public Controversies and Private Struggles. This collection (co-edited with Robert Mundy, Anna Sicari, Richard Severe, and Lila Naydan) presents literature reviews and individual narratives about the politics of identity and disclosure around race, gender, sexuality, class, faith, multilingualism, and learning disabilities in the context of writing centers. Harry and his co-authors received the award at the IWCA’s annual conference, which was held Oct. 16-19 in Columbus, Ohio.
We also recognize the release of his co-authored book Gender, Sexuality, and the Cultural Politics of Men’s Identity: Literacies of Masculinity (Routledge, 2019). Their text examines the intense scrutiny placed on masculinity in contemporary culture and challenges readers to ask important questions about the responsibilities and expectations that accompany manhood today.
Congratulations, Dr. Denny!
