Sherylyn Briller and TJ Kim
Please join me in congratulating Sherylyn Briller, professor of anthropology, TJ Kim, professor of industrial design, and their Purdue-based team for winning a $295,816 standard grant from the National Science Foundation.
Sherri and TJ are Co-PIs on the project, titled “Transforming Undergraduate Learning to Enhance Innovation for a Changing World.” The project aims to leverage Purdue’s strengths in the College of Liberal Arts, Polytechnic Institute, and Krannert School of Management to provide a pathway for all students to be innovative in their own way.
Project PI Greg Strimel, assistant professor in Purdue Polytechnic Institute, explained that their Mission Meaning Making (M3) project “requires an investigation into educational traditions and institutional structures to determine novel approaches for learning to span across disciplines, minimizing the silo effect of academic departments/individual courses. By carrying out this work, we will establish the knowledge to support large institutions toward transforming undergraduate learning in a manner that (1) democratizes the practice of innovation across campus boundaries and (2) prepares the next generation of innovators through co-teaching, co-learning, and blended team projects within an engaged community of practice.”
Douglas Pruim, clinical assistant professor or management in the Krannert School of Management, and Todd Kelley, associate professor in Purdue Polytechnic Institute, are also Co-PIs.
The two-year project launched on Jan. 15 and will run through the end of 2023.
