MFA Lighting Candidate, Denisse Chavez, receives 2022 USITT Lighting Design Award
Purdue’s Department of Theatre is pleased to announce that Denisse Chavez, MFA Lighting ’22, is the recipient of the 2022 USITT Barbizon Lighting Company Jonathan Resnick Lighting Design Award. Denisse served as lighting designer for Department of Theatre productions of Water by the Spoonful (canceled due to COVID-19), Nell Gwynn, and lighting and scenic designer for Fefu and Her Friends (terminal lighting project). Denisse has had an extraordinarily successful three-years with the Department of Theatre and this award is much deserved.
Recipients of the Lighting Design Award must display competency and skill in a variety of areas in lighting design and must demonstrate clear execution regarding artistic choices, process, and product.
Denisse received her B.A. in Theatre Arts from The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. She has had the opportunity to work in several technical and design fields in San Antonio and Norfolk, Virginia. Her design work has been recognized with the Excellence in Lighting Design of a Musical Award by the Alamo Theatre Arts Council of San Antonio.
