Mountainside: Megan and Murray McMillan
August 29 through October 9, 2005
Stewart Center Gallery
California artistic collaborators Megan and Murray McMillan will create another room-size work to open the Stewart Center Gallery.
Mountainside will be an installation similar to a topographical map that encompasses the gallery space, surrounding and enveloping the audience, combined with floating wing-like objects suspended from the ceiling. A video work, based on the narrative of the Rape of Persephone, will be projected on the walls of the gallery space. Texts of interviews with individuals who have lived through 'underground' experiences will be incorporated into the videos. If they choose, individual audience members will be able to climb under the mountainside, where they will be able to see a unique video piece on a flat screen monitor.
