Analyzing Artistry
A Scientific and Stylistic Exploration of Art
October 24 through December 16, 2022
An artwork poses many questions: of dating, of authorship, of authenticity, and of preservation. Art historians, curators, conservators, and specialists seek to answer these questions through a rapidly advancing and multiplying number of scientific tests and art historical methods. Showcasing works from Purdue Galleries and other regional collections, Analyzing Artistry explores the ways in which material science and visual analysis are combined to paint a bigger picture of an artwork’s history as well as our understanding of artistry through the ages.
This exhibition is sponsored by Purdue University’s School of Materials Engineering.
