20-21 Productions in SDC Journal

Photographs Showcase Innovation in the Pandemic

The Purdue University Department of Theatre is proud to have photographs from the 2020-21 Mainstage Season featured in the SDC Journal Spring/Summer 2021 Issue at issuu.com/sdcjournal/docs/sdc_journal_9.1_spring-summer_2021 (page 70; photos courtesy of Melanie Yvonne Ramey).

The photo spread is part of the peer-reviewed section of the Journal, and celebrates the innovations in live and digital performances in higher education in the pandemic, when professional theatres were closed. While many peer institutions supported their programs in 20-21 through virtual readings and performances, in true Boilermaker spirit, Purdue stands among the universities in the nation to produce live productions during the pandemic.

Photos featured include In the Blood by Suzan-Lori Parks, directed by Sonita L. Surratt and Tasia A. Jones (pictured left to right: Maya Radjenovich, Kyle Redcross, and Maya Mays); Mother Courage and Her Children by Bertolt Brecht, directed by Ann M. Shanahan (pictured left to right: Jacob Horstmeier and Amanda Akran); and Nell Gwynn by Jessica Swale, directed by William W. Lewis (pictured left to right: Kristie Schuh, Kaleigh Stohler, and Izik Metcalf).

Published by Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), SDC Journal is distributed to SDC members nationwide and is available to industry constituents, theatre education programs, and the theatre-going public at large. SDC Journal's mission is to give voice to an empowered collective of directors and choreographers working in all jurisdictions and venues across the country, encourage advocacy, and highlight artistic achievement. SDC is a national theatrical labor union.
