Amy Lynn Budd is collaborating to create an interdisciplinary course around the musical Hamilton with Dr. John Larson of the Department of History. She masterminds the street theatre happening Women Speaking Math, which will appear at West Lafayette Record Store Day on April 22. The performance is available for booking at fairs and festivals. Amy has been accepted into Goodspeed Musicals’ highly competitive Professional Observership Program for the summer 2017 production of Darling Grenadine.

Rich Dionne will continue his work with Kat Hickey, Renee Murray, and Erin Carignan developing technologies that allow dancers to control and interact with entertainment technologies like lighting, sound, and projection/video. He will also continue his exploration of the application of robotics technologies to automated and wireless scenery onstage. As if that weren’t enough, he’ll spend a good amount of his summer reading proofs for his sole-authored book, Project Planning for the Stage: Tools and Techniques for Managing Extraordinary Performances, as well as for the eighth edition of Theatrical Design and Production, for which he is now officially a co-author with Michael Gillette.

Dr. Anne Fliotsos (Interim Chair) is celebrating the July 2018 publication of her fifth book, New Directions in Teaching Theatre Arts (Palgrave Macmillan), co-edited by Dr. Gail Medford. This timely book brings together sixteen essays from professors in the USA, UK, Australia & New Zealand to address new and challenging paths in teaching theatre in colleges & universities.

Dr. Anne is presenting two panels at the Conference of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) in Boston, Aug. 2018. She also traveled to the UK to meet with faculty about study abroad relationships for Purdue Theatre Students.

Kristine Holtvedt in January 2017, she directed an original one-woman show, Elvis and Eleanor by Mark Dunn, for the Q-Solo Festival at the Aux Dog Theatre Nob Hill in Albuquerque, where she is an Artistic Associate.

Rusty Jones is designing the scenery for a world premiere production entitled A Kentucky Christmas, set to open at The Woodford Theatre near Lexington this December.

Michael McNamara, associate professor, will finish his first complete season as lighting designer for First Folio Theatre in Oak Brook, IL including the highly acclaimed Betty’s Wedding. The season’s final production, a world premiere musical called Shrew’d!, opens in July, 2018 after he returns from a month-long stay at the American Academy in Rome. He will be on sabbatical in Fall, 2018 when he will be writing the next revision of his co-authored book, Designing with Light: An Introduction to Stage Lighting.

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH - Phoenix Theatre, Indianapolis, MAGGIE FLANIGAN STUDIO, NYC – SUMMER MASK INTENSIVE.

Rick Thomas is celebrating the release of his new book, Music as a Chariot, with a series of workshops based on the main premise of the book, that music is a type of theatre. He conducted the first in Limassol, Cyprus last December, and will be traveling to Cardiff, Wales for the fiftieth anniversary of OISTAT to conduct a workshop in August. He will be teaching a special Honors course on the subject in the fall, and has several other workshops in negotiation. This summer, Rick is starting work on developing a new music theatre piece to further explore the concepts of the book in a realized production setting.
