Renee Murray is a Chicago native, dance artist, and educator. She received her MFA in Dance from California State University, Long Beach. She has presented work at the American Dance Festival’s Movies By Movers, Going Solo Together Festival in Ireland, the Detroit Dance City Festival, Performática in Mexico and throughout Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Murray has been teaching in the Dance Program at Purdue University since 2014 and has taught in the Dance Department at CSULB.

Murray co-founded Matter of Reaction Movement Project in 2006 and created work with her company until 2014. She choreographs in the movement styles of modern, post-modern and contemporary dance, while often employing improvisation, audience participation, and technology to create works that include an element of spontaneity and indeterminacy.  As a dance educator, she believes that each student brings their unique perspective and personal connection to the subject of dance. These perspectives create a rich environment for creation and learning.  Murray’s teaching objectives are to heighten each student’s knowledge of their own body, open up movement possibilities, and explore opportunities for self-expression.
