September - Dana Tulodziecki
Please join me in congratulating Dana Tulodziecki, associate professor of philosophy, on co-authoring the multidisciplinary article “Ethical considerations for the age of non-governmental space exploration” in Nature.
In this piece, Dana and fellow researchers across an array of disciplines lay out several pressing issues related to new and nontrivial ethical, legal, and medical policy and practice concerns for selecting space travelers. The article also considers implications of conducting human subject research on space travelers (especially in the context of non-governmental and commercial/private space operations). Their research is included in the 44 publications of the Space Omics and Medical Atlas (SOMA) Package, the largest-ever collection of data for aerospace medicine and space biology.
This research was featured in articles across a number of publications including the Washington Post, National Geographic, AP News, the New York Times, Smithsonian Magazine, FOX Weather, NASA, and Reuters. Additionally, Dana was interviewed in Science News noting, “If you want to climb Mount Everest, you need to submit a health certificate. That’s more than you currently officially need to do to go to space.”
Congratulations, Professor Tulodziecki!
