A variety of resources are available in the Purdue and Lafayette-West Lafayette community. Below are the names of individuals offering private ESL instruction. We provide this list as a courtesy to students and non-students alike, but we cannot be responsible for the quality of services provided. Please contact these individuals directly for information on their fees for services.

Ann Beoletto
Ann has a BS in education, an MS in TESL, and a teaching certificate for grades K-9. She has studied Chinese. Her focus is on oral English conversation and vocabulary. Mary Maxine Browne
Mary Maxine is fluent in Spanish, German, and Dutch. She has a BA in English and an MA in medieval literature. She is an English writing instructor and a speech and accent reduction trainer. Her focus is on pronunciation, conversation, sentence structure, grammar, vocabulary, and writing. She accepts learners from all skill levels, from Junior High on up. Steve Moriarty
Steve served for 12 years as a Senior Lecturer in Purdue University’s PLaCE program, where he taught English language learners from around the world. During his time at Purdue, he taught courses in academic reading, writing, speaking, listening, and intercultural communication, and he worked extensively one on one with international students, graduate students, visiting scholars, and professionals. His tutoring focuses on conversation, pronunciation, fluency, presentation skills, grammar, vocabulary development, academic writing, interview preparation, and overall confidence in spoken English. Steve works with learners from a wide range of proficiency levels and backgrounds and enjoys helping students develop practical, natural communication skills for academic, professional, and everyday settings. Alexander Pijanowski
Alexander has a BA in Spanish literature and the Spanish fluency of a non-native speaker. He also has a CIE teaching certification from College Foundations. His focus is on conversation and listening, formal vs. informal vocabulary, and writing skills (including self-editing). He accepts learners of all ages and skill levels. Beth Tucker
Beth has an MA in Intercultural Studies and a certificate in TESOL. She worked for many years at Purdue in the Office of International Students and Scholars and CILMAR. Her English teaching experience was in Taiwan (where she also studied and learned Mandarin Chinese) and the City Colleges of Chicago. Her focus is on oral conversation and vocabulary, along with grammar and writing. She accepts learners of all levels. Her fee is $25 an hour. Genevieve K. White
Genevieve has a 20 year history in education. She has worked as a Spanish and English teacher for a decade, a speech professor at Purdue, an English as a second language professor for the University of Detroit-Mercy, and has written for the Michigan Journal at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She holds a current Indiana teaching license in English in Spanish. She accepts learners of all skill levels. Her fee is $20 for a one hour one-on-one tutoring session. Gavin Whittle
Gavin has BSc in English, a MSc in Resilient and Sustainable Communities, and is TQUK Level 5 TEFL-certified. He specializes in Business English, Pronunciation and Accent Training, American Culture, and English Proficiency Exam preparation for IELTS, Cambridge, TOEFL iBT, and OEPT. Gavin’s current clients include business professionals, graduate students, international students who wish to study in the United States and Canada, and new US residents with native languages including: Mandarin, Russian, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Finnish, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Greek, Arabic, and Hebrew. Gavin enjoys working with students to tailor a lesson plan based on individual need and developing a daily learning ritual that allows his clients to find a home in American English.
