Guidelines for the Outstanding Student Award

1 Recipient | $1,000 award


This award honors one outstanding student per year who excelled in both SCLA 101 and 102. The winner will receive a framed certificate and a cash award of $1,000

 

  1. Criteria

    1. The student must have attended both SCLA 101 and 102 within the last academic year. The student can be currently enrolled in either SCLA 101 or 102. They must have proved themselves committed to the highest standards of academic excellence through their grades, leadership in class, and willingness to go beyond the instructor’s expectations.
  2. Nominations

    1. Students must be nominated by one of their instructors in the Transformative Texts sequence.
  3. Submission Materials:

    1. Letters from both their SCLA 101 and 102 instructors that speak to the student’s grasp of the readings, participation in discussion, and completion of assignments.
    2. A personal statement from the student on how Transformative Texts advanced their education
  4. Deadline

    1. Materials must be received by Dr. Stephanie Ayala-Chittick at smatosay@purdue.edu by March 1.

       

Recipients of this award are chosen by the Cornerstone Advisory Committee and the Director of Cornerstone and will be notified by April 1.
