Fall Undergraduate Research Expo
September 27, 2019
Encourage your students to submit to or attend the Fall Expo! The Fall Undergraduate Research Expo is an interdisciplinary, low-stakes research conference for undergraduate students at Purdue organized by the Office of Undergraduate Research. Students in all disciplines and at all years of study are encouraged to submit their research or creative work as either an oral or poster presentation.
Fall Undergraduate Research Expo
Date: November 18
Oral Presentations: 8:30-11:30am, STEW 214
Poster Symposium: 1:30-3:30pm, PMU Ballrooms
Submitting: To be considered, students must submit an abstract through a Qualtrics form, which can be found on the Fall Expo webpage. It is helpful if you walk through the application with your students, who should list you as their research mentor. There is no submission category specifically for students in Engl. 106/108.
Submission Deadline: October 29, 11:59pm
You may also view a PDF version of the Qualtrics application form.
This is an excellent opportunity for students to see other undergraduates share their work. If you have students who are considering submitting for the Spring conference, encourage them to attend the Fall Expo.
Research Workshops
The OUR is offering the following workshops for undergraduates to help prepare them to conduct and present research. Encourage your students to attend* even if they do not plan to present this fall! Bringing a laptop to sessions is encouraged. For more information on the workshop series, visit the OUR website.
Oct. 15 – Where to Start to Be an Undergraduate Researcher – HIKS G980D | 4:30-5:30pm
Undergrads interested in getting started in research will learn what researchers are seeking, how they can approach potential research mentors, and what they need to do to prepare.
Oct. 29 – How to Leverage and Market Your Research Experience – HIKS G980D | 4:30-5:30pm
Similar to other experiences you may have, marketing your research experience to graduate school programs or employers for full-time positions or additional opportunities is critical.
Nov. 5 – Present Your Research: Oral Presentations – HCRS 1066 | 12-1PM
Available for those who will be presenting their work in an oral presentation at the Fall Expo or other venues such as courses or off-campus conferences. Fall Expo participants who indicated they wanted to deliver an oral presentation are encouraged to attend, but it is open to everyone. Attendees must RSVP via the Qualtrics survey since lunch is provided.
Nov. 5 – Present Your Research: Posters – HIKS G980D | 4:30-5:30pm
Novice and expert poster designers are invited to learn poster best practices in anticipation for the Fall Expo. Those who plan to present a poster are encouraged to attend.
Nov. 12 – Poster Work Day – Preparing for the Purdue Fall Undergraduate Research Expo – HIKS G980D | 4:30-5:30pm
Poster presenters for Purdue’s conferences and off-campus conferences are encouraged to bring a draft of their poster to the session to ask questions and receive feedback from peers and session presenters.
*If you require attendance at any of these workshops as a form of extra credit or in place of a class period, please let us know so that we can provide expected attendance numbers to the OUR.
