Samantha Lee

Hi, my name is Samantha Lee. Throughout high school, I was always interested in creative activities such as video editing, photography, and copywriting, and soon realized that I wanted to develop this passion into a full-fledged career. Thus, I chose to pursue a degree in Communication. Transitioning to Purdue was quite the change for me, as I went from having a class of 20 people in high school to joining a campus with over 40,000 students. I was overwhelmed to say the least. But from the beginning, the College of Liberal Arts provided the balance I needed to adjust to such a large campus. CLA's tight-knit community helped a lot with the adjustment, and the faculty and professors never fail to make you feel heard and recognized.

I have previously interned at WBAA, Purdue's NPR station, as their social media coordinator! What I appreciated most about this job was that I was given ample freedom to create and design content for the company as well as work with amazing people who love what they do. I am currently interning for the Purdue Marketing team as one of their social media interns, and am working on an upcoming project that will be featured on Purdue's social media channels this semester!

What I love most about Purdue are the people! As an international student from Singapore having to live in the Midwest for the first time, I was quite nervous as I didn't know what to expect or whether I'd fit in with the community. However, with Purdue having such a diverse student population, I never felt alone and was able to make friends who were like-minded and had similar interests.

My advice is to join clubs! By joining clubs or even just attending some of the events they hold, you are able to meet so many people and become familiar with the community at Purdue and find your niche. In addition, don't be afraid to expose yourself to new things you didn't participate in in high school. Just because you didn't do it then doesn't mean you can't do it now!
