What was the most exciting thing about your role? 

Being part of the actual legislative process for various types of bills was one of the most interesting parts of my summer. I played a role in helping put together talking points for members and conducted research necessary to write bills over nuclear waste, EPA requirements, hydroelectric power, and autonomous cars. 

What surprised you most about your internship? 

One of my biggest surprises was how engaging the HoR members were with even the interns. They are very friendly people, and it makes sense, because representatives rely on votes and a good impression on everyone is easier than selective kindness. Having one on one conversations with such powerful people was a great experience.

How did you apply your Liberal Arts-skills to your internship position?

I was informed of the opportunity through Professor Joshua Boyd of COM 204 near the end of the school year. I then visited the website and filled out the application. 

How has your internship prepared you for your career?

My internship has given me incredible insight into preparations for a post graduate career in Washington, D.C. working for Congress. Some of the most important skills I acquired were improvements to my writing to be more clear and concise, how to properly network with industry professionals, and the inner workings of how legislation comes together on Capitol Hill.
