The House Theatre of Chicago

What was the most exciting thing about your role?

I had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the best and most interesting people in theatre. Every day I learned something from people who were a part of a company I had looked up to for years, and it drove me to do my best possible work.

What surprised you most about your internship?

I was surprised at how kindly interns were treated. At Chicago Youth Shakespeare, interns were treated as an integral part of the process. At the House, interns were treated as a part of the family and were given more responsibility that I would have imagined. Both internships truly felt like a glimpse into the real world of professional theatre, and it was awesome to be a part of that for the summer.

How did you apply your Liberal Arts-skills to your internship position?

I applied to both Chicago Youth Shakespeare and The House Theatre of Chicago by email and participated in a phone interview for both.

How has your internship prepared you for your career?

Whether I pursue a career in theatre or a different career, both of my internships have taught me valuable communication, research, and time management skills that will prove to be applicable in any field.  My internship at The House has given me the opportunity to learn the many positions in a theatre company and has driven my interest in exploring more opportunities.  I have learned a world of management skills and have seen to what career my abilities are pointing me.
