Ravi Awarded Justice in Action Scholarship
Undergraduate Political Science Student Pravina Ravi Awarded Justice in Action Scholarship
Pravina Ravi was recently selected to be the recipient of the Justice in Action Scholarship from TestMax, a company with the mission of providing comprehensive, low cost, accessible test prep material for people pursing advance degrees. The Justice in Action Scholarship supports people from underrepresented populations as they pursue legal careers.
As a recipient of this award, Ravi will receive ongoing support in her journey to become a lawyer. In addition to test preparation courses, she will be given support in applying for law schools, and eventually applying for jobs. They also provide supports during the first year of law school and are working to develop a network of scholarship recipients that can provide support to each other.
Ravi is in her third year at Purdue and is in the process of apply to law school. She is using the resources provided to her through the Justice in Action Scholarship to help her prepare to take the LSAT in January. Her interests range from international human rights laws to immigration and civil rights laws within the U.S. She attributes her internship experience with Lafayette Urban Ministry’s Immigration Clinic as the driving force behind her pursuit to become an attorney. She learned about the internship opportunity from Political Science Professor Ann Marie Clark. Dr. Clark served as one of Ravi’s references for the Justice in Action Scholarship. She has been impressed by Ravi’s commitment to human rights. “Pravina has pursued the CLA Human Rights Minor here at Purdue, and I got to know her when she took my class on international human rights. She is very dedicated to continuing her work on these issues in law school” noted Dr. Clark. This made Ravi a great fit for the Justice In Action Scholarship.
Ravi is grateful for the guidance she has received from her professors and for the political science department at Purdue. “If Purdue had a law school I would stay right here! The political science department at Purdue has helped me grow so much as a person. I am a better thinker, writer, and speaker than I was when I first got here 3 years ago. I am so grateful for the professors. The smaller liberal arts classes have let me get to know my professors personally, and I really enjoyed that compared to some of the bigger classes I have been in. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, I don’t feel disconnected from the political science community here.”
In addition to her studies, preparing for law school, and her internship at LUM, Ravi is actively engaged in other Purdue organizations. She is a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society and Voter Engagement Coordinator for the Purdue Votes Coalition. Ravi will graduate from Purdue in May of 2021.
