How has your internship helped build your skills and clarify your career goals?

This internship has allowed me to improve my professional development skills by interacting with staff and industry professionals on the daily. Because I work for a Congressman on the Agriculture Committee, I have been able to learn about agriculture policy and meet with industry experts. This summer has solidified my career goal to work on agriculture policy in Washington DC after graduation.

How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills in your internship?

I use the skills I have learned from my Liberal Arts classes through the different projects I complete weekly. I have been able to assist in the writing of monthly newsletters, meeting briefings, responses to constituents, and questions for committee hearings. Because of my classes, I have a better understanding of the legislative process and how the government operates in DC.
