Megan Lavelle Trainor serves as the director of human resources at the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC), the largest property/casualty insurance trade association in the U.S. She manages recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation, and benefits for the association, as well as serving as the plan administrator for the organization’s Multiple Employer 401(k) plan offered to NAMIC’s member companies. Trainor’s organization has been selected as one of the Best Places to Work in Indiana by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce for each of the three years it has participated in this venture, including being selected as number two in the mid-sized company group for 2015.  

Prior to NAMIC, Trainor worked for property/casualty insurance companies where she (happily) performed college recruitment activities and oversaw rotational training programs for recent college graduates, among other things. She championed internship programs and built strong connections with university career centers.

Trainor was recently featured on the cover of Associations Now magazine for her HR work at NAMIC. She has a passion for creating interview processes that find the best candidates for the job and the organization through well-devised questions and helping candidates feel comfortable enough to let their true capabilities and personalities shine through. She credits her interest in human resources to her years at Purdue where she worked with the Purdue Grand Prix Foundation interviewing students for different roles within the organization. She also took a class called “Liberal Arts Majors Can Find Jobs” that required her to look at the Occupational Outlook Handbook for jobs of interest; human resource jobs were on top of her list because of the need for skills in decision-making, interpersonal communication, leadership, organizational abilities, and speaking.

Trainor holds the Senior Professional in Human Resource designation from the HR Certification Institute and the Senior Certified Professional accreditation from the Society for Human Resource Management. She loves being a hands-on human resource professional and embraces the ways employers can connect with potential employees through social media. Trainor grew up in Anderson, Indiana and is the fifth of her siblings to attend Purdue. She lives in Fishers, Indiana with her husband, Chad; 12 year old son, Dane; and fluffy white dog, Murph.
