Isheeta Khurana

Hi! My name is Isheeta Khurana. I’m From St. Louis, Missouri. I studied Political Science and Global Studies with a minor in Law and Society, Human Rights, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

I came into Purdue knowing I wanted to do Global Studies because I love to travel, learn about other people and cultures, and want to make an impact in the world in some way. I added Political Science later because I realized it gives me the government side to things, whereas Global studies give me the humanitarian side. Put together, I get the complete round of knowledge, giving me the ability to do what I want to do in the future.

The thing I loved most about being a CLA student was the opportunities I got. CLA is a smaller and more intimate school compared to the other ones on campus. This allowed me to know my professors on a face-to-face basis as class sizes are also smaller. Being in a smaller community reduces the pool of people who are reaching for the same opportunities as you, giving you more open doors.

I was involved in several different activities on campus. I was the captain of Boiler Baaz, which is a Bollywood fusion Indian dance team. I was also part of Phi Sigma Alpha, which is Purdue’s political honors society. We do all kinds of things like holding voter registration booths on campus to holding debate watch parties.

The thing I love most about Purdue is the campus. We have a beautiful campus with buildings of all kinds and trees planted all around. You can hang up a hammock almost everywhere and enjoy the weather in the fall and spring. Walking to classes is always refreshing and is especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves are changing colors.

If I had to give one piece of advice, it would be don’t be intimidated by the other things Purdue stands for. Yes, we have an amazing engineering program and an amazing computer science program, but the College of Liberal Arts does not fall behind. So many doors will open for you here,  you will grow in all aspects and you’ll get to do that with the best people by your side supporting you.
