Brian “Chappy” Chapman retired from Hasbro in August 2023 as the President of Design & Development after three decades in the industry. His team was responsible for developing Hasbro’s toys and games, from concept to production. Chappy’s leadership brought you games such as Pie Face, Speak Out, Simon Swipe, and Hero Quest, toys such as Furby, Nerf Rebelle, Big Hugs Elmo, and Beyblade and the reimagination of the brands My Little Pony, Transformers, Star Wars, GI-Joe, Monopoly, Nerf, and Playdoh. Chappy is well-known for his ability to organically build great play into story. He worked closely with filmmakers on all the Transformers and GI-Joe theatrical releases as well as Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Early in his career, Chappy designed, crafted, and sold primitive jewelry. He soon began his professional career at Kenner Products, a division of Hasbro in Cincinnati as a toy designer. In 2001, he moved to Hasbro’s corporate office in Rhode Island where he went from leading toy development to leading all of Global Design.
After retiring from Hasbro, Chappy realized the toy and game industry was in his blood and now leads Chappy Hour Toys & Games, specializing in playful invention in the toy and game industry.
