Daniel J. Olson completed a Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin. He joined Purdue’s faculty in 2012.
His research focuses on the phonetics and psycholinguistics of bilingual populations. His primary line of research investigates both the outcomes of code-switching, as well as the underlying mechanisms that govern language separation and selection. As a secondary area, he is interested in using tools for phonetic analysis as a method for teaching pronunciation.
Olson’s research has made theoretical, methodological, and practical contributions to the fields of bilingualism, psycholinguistics, and phonetics. His work leverages a variety of different methodological and statistical approaches. He has published and presented both single and co-authored projects. He has reviewed grants for NSF (Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Science) and has served as a manuscript reviewer for 15 academic journals.
He is the director of the Purdue Bilingualism Lab andin 2020, he was the recipient of SLC’s Graduate Mentoring Award.
