Hyungjoo Kim

Hyungjoo Kim studied environmental planning at Kyungpook National University and completed a master of fine arts in visual design at Hongik in Korea, and also received a master’s in visual communications design at Purdue, where she previously taught for 10 years. Before rejoining Purdue, Kim taught both in the U.S. and Korea, and at the University of Wisconsin as an assistant professor. Kim joined Purdue in 2019 as an assistant professor of visual communications design in the Patti & Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance.

Kim’s work has been recognized in more than 100 exhibitions and publications internationally. She has practiced as a designer, illustrator, art director, design director, and a consultant in the field. These positions involved completing diverse design projects for a variety of client groups. Kim also has served on various advisory, steering, and organizing committees for international events and public organizations, and has curated and art directed international exhibitions.

Kim has participated in over 150 exhibitions in 29 different countries. Her work has been featured at diverse exhibitions and received awards at international venues including GRAPHIS Protest Posters 2 (USA, 2022), International Poster Biennial for Peace Nanjing (China, 2021, 2019), Peru Design Biennial (Peru, 2021), Grande Festival (Italy, 2021), Gift of Hope, Exposición Internacional de Cartel en Mexico(2020), What Unites Us: International Poster Exhibition(Turkey, 2021), The 4th Block, 11th International Eco-Poster Triennial (2020, Ukraine), Gwangju Design Biennale (Korea, 2019).
