Shaina Wilson
BA 2016 - Spanish, MInors: Communication and Portuguese
Director, Recruitment Enablement and Marketing Innovation
Teach For America
Detroit, MI
Shaina Wilson became a part of Teach For America's recruitment team in 2019, aiming to broaden her impact in the education sector following three years as an elementary school educator. In her current capacity, she oversees the national recruitment marketing campaign, conducts and leads training sessions and personalized coaching for recruitment staff, and pioneers experimental lead-generation strategies for the organization. Her primary goal is to craft compelling marketing materials and experiences that deepen audiences' comprehension of TFA's mission and offerings.
Shaina ardently believes that dismantling racist and classist systems necessitates collaboration across all sectors, envisioning a society where every child has access to an empowering education. Her involvement in various campus organizations at Purdue, such as Old Masters, Boiler Tracks, College Mentors for Kids, and Women in Business, during her academic years shaped her commitment to making a positive impact. Encountering Teach For America at a CLA career fair aligned with her values, prompting her to join as a 2016 corps member. As a first-generation college student from a low socioeconomic background, she perceived TFA as the avenue to develop skills and connections to enhance educational access, leading her back to her hometown of Detroit to teach 3rd grade.
While teaching, Shaina realized her passion lay in increasing educational access through organizational advocacy efforts, eventually returning to TFA’s national team as a Recruitment Manager. Spending three years in full-cycle recruiting, she focused on bringing in students dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion to become educators and advocates for lasting social change. This experience paved the way for her transition into her current role on the team.
