Please join me in congratulating Dr. Kenneth Ferraro, distinguished professor of sociology, for receiving the Distinguished Career Contribution to Gerontology Award through the Gerontological Society of America. This award recognizes career contributions that have articulated a novel, theoretical, or methodological perspective or synthesis that addresses a significant problem in the literature.

Please join me in congratulating Kenneth Ferraro, distinguished professor of sociology and director of the Center on Aging and the Life Course, for his selection as a recipient of this year’s Morrill Award. 

Created in 2012 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Act, the Morrill Award is Purdue’s highest career achievement recognition for faculty members. The Office of the Provost created the award as a way to recognize professors “who most strongly exemplify the spirit of the land grant university” through the quality of their instruction, engagement, and scholarship. 

Ken has most certainly distinguished himself in each of these areas since joining the Purdue faculty in 1990. In a letter informing Ken of his selection, Provost Jay Akridge wrote that the selection committee members “were deeply impressed by the manner in which you have, over many years, excelled at all facets of the professoriate, demonstrating powerful synergies among your roles as teacher, scholar, and engaged professor whose work evidences impact on society.” 

Ken will be presented the Morrill Award and accompanying $30,000 cash prize at the Faculty Awards Convocation.
