April Ginther received her Ph.D. in Educational Linguistics in 1994 from the University of New Mexico. Before coming to Purdue, she worked as an Associate Research Scientist at Educational Testing Service where she conducted research on the Test of English as a Second Language (TOEFL). Her primary research interests continue to be associated with language testing and assessment. At Purdue, she is the Director of Testing for the Oral English Proficiency Program (OEPP). In August of 2001, the OEPP introduced a computer-based test of oral proficiency (the OEPT) which was developed by Dr. Ginther and Krishna Prasad, a graduate student in the English Language and Linguistics Program. The test is administered to more than 500 international graduate students a year and is an excellent example of a large-scale local testing program.
