Huai-Rhin Kim is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Korean Program in the School of Languages and Cultures.  She teaches Korean language courses as well as Korean culture and society, Korean cinema, Korean food culture, and Korean literature.

Her primary research interest, and the focus of her dissertation, is the cultural perspective on writing evaluation of bilingual children.  More broadly, she pursues research in second language acquisition, bilingualism, and Korean language education, with a special focus on Korean language learners and teaching Korean as a foreign language.  Building on this foundation, her current projects explore the integration of artificial intelligence into language education, including AI- and robot-based personalized learning systems, immersive multi-modal human-AI interaction, and speech-based systems that support vocabulary and pronunciation development.

Huai Rhin Kim received the SLC Excellence in Teaching Award and the CLA Outstanding Lecturer Award in 2023.
