Lori Czerwionka

Lori Czerwionka received her Ph.D. in Hispanic linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she also completed a bachelor’s in Spanish and finance. She researches pragmatics, discourse, sociolinguistics, and second language acquisition.

A Purdue faculty member since 2012, Czerwionka’s recent projects address discourse organization and the use of discourse markers by native and non-native speakers of Spanish, acquisition of pragmatic norms, and intercultural communication.

Czerwionka was co-editor, along with professor Alejandro Cuza and associate professor Daniel Olson, of Inquiries in Hispanic Linguistics: From Theory to Empirical Evidence (John Benjamins, 2016) and has published articles in a number of academic journals.

In addition to teaching graduate and undergraduate Spanish language and linguistics courses, Czerwionka is active in multiple campus organizations. She has coordinated the Purdue Faculty Writing Group since 2012 and is a member of the graduate committee and linguistics committee in the School of Languages and Cultures.
