April Ginther received a Ph.D. in educational linguistics from University of New Mexico. Her research interests include language testing and assessment, and she specializes in second-language studies and English as a second language.
Ginther, a faculty member in English and linguistics, is director of testing for the Oral English Proficiency Program (OEPP). In 2001, the OEPP introduced a computer-based test of oral proficiency, which was developed by Ginther and Krishna Prasad, a graduate student in the English Language and Linguistics program. The test is administered to more than 500 international graduate students a year.
Before coming to Purdue, Ginther worked as an associate research scientist at Educational Testing Service, where she conducted research on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
