Scott Frankenberger

MA 1979, Ceramics
BA 1971, Lawrence University

Owner, Crossroad Pottery, West Lafayette

Scott Frankenberger has operated Crossroad Pottery since 1974, and produces functional and decorative porcelain for the home and workplace. He produces over 3000 pieces per year.

He began his college studies intending to be a math major, but two semesters in Europe with a studies abroad program altered his plans. Being able to see the masterworks up close and personal after studying them in an art appreciation class was a transforming experience.

Scott has produced his expressive and multi-colored glazed porcelain for over 35 years. His work has been seen at art fairs and galleries nationwide, and is in numerous public and private collections. He has also produced larger scale architectural and sculptural projects, sometimes in collaboration with other artists. They can be seen at Purdue, Ivy Tech, the city of Lafayette, and at the Math Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley.

What began in a basement workshop is now housed in a spacious studio not far from Purdue. In addition to his daily work, he occasionally teaches in workshops or private sessions. His work is available locally, as well as about 10 regional and national galleries.

Scott is married to Dr. JoAnn Miller, Associate Dean in the College of Liberal Arts, Purdue University; they reside in West Lafayette. Scott still likes to visit Europe (and elsewhere) when he can, and renew the inspiration that began 40 years ago.
