Business Editor, The Gazette

Steve Monroe is the Business Editor for the Gazette, a media company based in Gaithersburg, MD, which publishes more than a half a million weekly community newspapers along with a statewide, Friday Gazette of Politics and Business, that includes the award-winning Business Gazette. The media company also operates gazette.net, an online news, advertising and community information operation. Since 2000 Steve has been responsible for overseeing a staff that produces business coverage for the Gazette in print and online. Steve has more than 30 years experience in communications, newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and online publications. Steve has also worked in radio and television. Before joining the Gazette Steve was senior staff writer in marketing for Indiana Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Steve was originally interested in studying engineering at Purdue, but, mid-way through his degree he married, had a son, and moved to Indianapolis to work. When he returned to Purdue, he changed his major and worked at The Exponent covering sports, which led to his first job as a journalist. Steve had a hard time completing his education due to distractions of the times (racial issues, war protests), he finished his degree in six years.
