Professional Development

The graduate students in the History Department at Purdue actively pursue opportunities for professional development. Some of these professional activities include: attending and/or presenting work at conferences, submitting written work for publication, and applying for research grants and fellowships.

Recent accomplishments:

  • Multiple conference presentations at the American Historical Association, American Society for Environmental History Conference, Policy History Conference, Midwest Political Science Association Conference, American Studies Association Annual Meeting, Ohio Valley History Conference, the North American Labor History Converence, the Social Science History Association Conference, National Women's Studies Association, Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association National Conference, North American Society for Sport History, Western Society for French History Annual Conference, British Scholar Society, American Society of Eighteenth Century Studies, Midwest Popular Culture Association, Labor and Working Class History Association Conference, the Agricultural History Association Conference, Western Association of Women's Historians, the International Medieval Congress, and many more

  • Published articles and book reviews in Journal of Sport History, Florida Historical Quarterly, Environmental Justice, and African Studies Quarterly

  • Numerous students submitted encyclopedia entries to different encyclopedia projects

  • Our graduate students applied for and received funding from a variety of sources including: the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Filson Historical Society, the New York State Archives, the Institut fuer Europaeische Geshichte in Mainz Germany, the Bilsland Dissertation Fellowship, the Andrews Environmental Grant, the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, as well as the Purdue University Research Foundation
