Penelope Farthing is of counsel with Bose McKinney & Evans LLP and a senior advisor with Bose Public Affairs Group LLC, working from the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Prior to joining Bose McKinney & Evans, Farthing served as senior counsel of Patton Boggs LLP where her practice included significant work for local governments, in addition to corporate and trade association assignments. Her extensive government experience includes service at the Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission and United States Department of Agriculture. Farthing also has worked in the legal department of Allstate Insurance and held the position of counsel at the American Insurance Association and at the American Retail Federation. She is admitted to practice in Indiana and in the District of Columbia.
Farthing has been recognized on several occasions for her professional service, including her selection as Trinity College’s “Woman of Genius,” and recognition as a “Top Rated Lawyer” by the National Law Journal. In addition, Farthing has received two Distinguished Service Awards from the Federal Bar Association, and her history and biography reviews have been published in the Washington Independent Review of Books.
Farthing served as former president of the American League of Lobbyists, and was selected to serve on the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Lawyer Competence and Special Committee on Government Affairs. She is a board member for The Center on Congress at Indiana University and an emeritus member of the Board of Visitors of Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law. In addition, Farthing is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association, and Indiana University and Purdue University Alumni Associations. She was elected to the Academy of Law Alumni Fellows at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law.
