Professional Writing

Students working with physical and digital media.

Purdue’s Professional Writing Program provides students with the experience in writing and communication skills vital to succeed in an array of workplace environments.

About:

For over 30 years, students in the Professional Writing program have gained the skills and experience needed to pursue careers in editing and publishing, technical writing, user experience, marketing and media, medical writing, content development, and more. The program integrates Purdue’s reputation as a scientific and technology-driven university with a focus on ethics, research, rhetoric, and technology.

High-impact experiences, internships, a nationwide alumni network, and a small student-to-faculty ratio allow students to cultivate a well-rounded resume that makes them highly competitive on the job market. Undergraduate students may major or minor in professional writing or satisfy the requirements of another major. Graduate students may concentrate in professional writing to sharpen their teaching skills, to collaborate with industry leaders, and to develop cutting-edge research.

Professional Writing courses:

Students may complete professional writing requirements within their major area of study by taking multimedia writing, business writing, technical writing, or writing for the health and human sciences.
