Shrouds, Masks and the Floating World
Robert L. Ringel Gallery, Purdue Memorial Union
Longer-term displays from the Purdue Galleries permanent collection are now being presented in a gallery dedicated to that purpose. These displays will run throughout the year, with segments being exchanged periodically, and will enable Galleries to better highlight the valuable contributions of donors.
From several gifts to the University, the current exhibit features funerary cloths, clothing, and bags from Pre-Columbian South America; African masks and ritual objects from various societies of the West Guinea coast; and relief prints of the ukiyo-e, the Japanese culture of “the floating world.”
