Julia studies Liberal Arts because she wants to work with, not for, people. She says, "I choose Liberal Arts because I wanted an experience that would teach me about many different things and places in diverse ways. Math and sciences seem very straight forward and one-track oriented. I was drawn to the idea of learning things in interdisciplinary ways." She is working towards her degree in law and society with minors in spanish, theatre, and theatre design & production.
She states, "When I think about a Purdue education, specifically Liberal Arts, I am really lucky to attend such an acclaimed University with faculty that really care about my success. Every minute at Purdue is meaningful because it bringings me closer to an exciting future." Julia's favorite class has been criminal justice, sociology 328. The course gave her insight into what type of law career she hopes for later in life.
On campus, Julia has been active with the Pre-Law Society Club, Sociology Club, and D.R.I.V.E.N. (Diversity & Retention Initiatives through Volunteering, Education, and Networking) Club. Julia says, "In D.R.I.V.E.N. we discuss real world issues while volunteering. We work at bettering ourselves and becoming more aware. Being a member of this organization has led me to work for Purdue’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion where I now get to help other minority students get acclimated to life at Purdue."
Where will Julia be in 10-years? She has dreams of practicing criminal law in the Chicagoland area. Boiler Up Julia.
