PR & Strategic Communication

Lafayette Urban Ministry

How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills in your internship?

Communication is so important when you have to talk to government officials. Communication is also incredibly important when I was putting the information I gathered into my newsletters. These newsletters go out to the general public and to individuals who are already involved with our organization.

Describe your typical day as an intern.

There really is no "typical day" at LUM. People come through those doors for all kinds of reasons and its our job to get them the resources they need.

What was the most exciting thing about your role?

The most exciting part of my internship is helping in the immigration clinic. Being that I am a Latina, I find it incredibly rewarding to help the Latino community here in Lafayette. I love being able to give them a voice!

What surprised you most about your internship?

What surprised me most about my internship at LUM was finding out just how many people in our community need help. It was very rewarding being able to be that help for them!

Describe the most meaningful experience you had as an intern.

The most meaningful thing I learned at my internship with LUM was that it is important to never take anything for granted. I feel like I have been immensely humbled by the people that have come through the door. "
