WORKS ON PAPER From the Collection of Ralph Privoznik
Reception: Friday, January 31, 5:00 - 6:30 pm
West Gallery
An exhibition of drawings and fine art prints collected by Lafayette artist and jewelry designer Ralph Privoznik. The exhibition features 38 works by 28 modern and contemporary artists. Abraham Walkowitz' 1913 pencil drawing Abstract Dancer is the earliest dated work in the show, and with the inclusion of two of Privoznik's own colored pencil drawings and Ann Gale's graphite portrait Robert, all created in 2012, the show spans an entire century. The exhibition reflects Ralph Privoznik's personal interests as they have varied over time. This exhibition was organized and curated by Anna Cicirelli.
PLEASE JOIN US for a closing reception on Friday, January 31, at 5:00 pm. Artist Matthew Woodward will speak about his work (on display in the West Gallery) and a reception will follow.
MATTHEW WOODWARD: Could Almost Hold It in my Hands Like an Egg of Air in the Water
Artist Talk and Closing Reception: Friday, January 31, 5:00 pm
East Gallery
A solo exhibition by Chicago artist Matthew Woodward, including work from 2010 to present in which elements of architectural imagery depict “remnants to a former grandeur.” These images are taken directly from cities where he has lived and spent countless hours walking and processing his exploration from a position of poetic aloneness. As metaphorical devices, they are most often created in large to monumental scale and employ repetition to express ideas about transience, memory, loss, death, of dark bodily grief, and also renewal and forgiveness. Through his working processes of deconstructing and reconstructing as he excavates the images out of the darkness he has placed them in, there also emerges a layered impression of time and space in which Woodward intends for us to experience what he calls, “the event of an archetype.” Organized and curated by Anna Cicirelli.
PLEASE JOIN US for a gallery talk and reception on Friday, January 31, at 5 pm. Artist Matthew Woodward will speak about his work and a closing reception for both Rueff Galleries' exhibitions will follow.
