Michael Light received his Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University. His research interests center on criminology, the sociology of law and punishment, inequality, and immigration. More specifically, his ongoing research investigates citizenship as an emerging mechanism of legal inequality across Western societies, the link between racial/ethnic stratification and criminal offending, and the health consequences of the great recession.

Light’s research has been published in journals including, American Sociological Review, Law & Society Review, Social Forces, and American Journal of Public Health.
