Funding for Conferences and Field Schools

The Anthropology Department is pleased to announce that it has a small pool of funds this year for undergraduate student awards for professional development activities. Funding is available in three categories: summer field school support; conference travel; and poster printing. Click here to apply online!

1)    Undergraduate Summer Field School Award (applications in Spring, max award $750)

Funding for this award is to help offset costs associated with attending an anthropological field school (e.g., archaeology, primatology, ethnography, etc.). Currently registered Anthropology majors applying to a field school offered through an accredited US or international university or reputable field training organization are eligible to apply. Because the funds are limited and dependent on demand, awards will not exceed $750 for two (2) awardees. Eligible expenses can include registration/tuition, airfare/mileage, housing, field equipment, and/or meals. Applications for this award will be accepted in Spring semester for Summer field schools.

If you are researching field school opportunities, please keep the following in mind:

2)      Undergraduate Student Conference Travel Award (applications in Fall, max award $500)

Funding for this award is to help offset travel, lodging, and/or registration costs associated with attending an academic/professional conference. Due to limited resources, funding is reserved for students who will be presenting/co-authoring papers or posters at professional conferences or workshop. A maximum of four (4) awards will be distributed this academic year. Applications for this award will be accepted in Fall semester for both Fall and Spring conferences.

3)    Poster Printing for Conferences:

The Department will cover the costs printing conference posters on the Department’s large format printer for undergraduates presenting at professional/academic conferences or workshops, regardless of whether they have received a Conference Travel Award.  Poster printing does not require an application, but please consult your faculty mentor for details about printing procedures.
