Backstage Experience Coordinator Assistant at Ruoff Music Center
How did you learn about this internship opportunity?
I called Ruoff personally asking if there were any summer positions needing filled.
What is a piece of advice you would give someone in your major looking for an internship?
Don't be afraid to cold call places you're interested in! Leave a voicemail and see what happens!
What key responsibilities or projects have you taken on during your internship?
I have taken on a significant role in supporting sustainability efforts for the green tours that come through our venue. This includes ensuring every backstage area is equipped with the appropriate waste, recycling, and compost bins, as well as making sure only compostable products are available to help artists and crews meet their sustainability goals.
How has your internship helped build your skills and clarify your career goals? How did being a Liberal Arts student at Purdue apply to your internship?
My internship as part of the backstage experience team at Ruoff Music Center has strengthened my communication, organization, problem-solving, and customer service skills. By setting up artist hospitality and assisting artists with anything they need throughout the day, I have learned how to stay flexible, remain professional under pressure, and pay close attention to details, which has helped clarify my interest in this career field. As a Liberal Arts student at Purdue, I have applied my ability to communicate with different people, understand their needs, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
In what ways has the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University supported your internship journey? How has your participation in our Job-Ready program specifically aided your professional development?

The experience allowed me to gain valuable real-world skills without financial barriers while reinforcing the critical thinking, communication, and adaptability I developed through my Liberal Arts education. Together, my coursework and internship have helped me grow both personally and professionally while preparing me for my future career.
Could you highlight a standout aspect of your experience in the Job-Ready program that you find particularly noteworthy?
One of the most valuable aspects of the Job-Ready program was the financial support that made my internship possible. It allowed me to gain hands-on experience in a field I’m passionate about while developing professional skills and building confidence in a real-world work environment. The program gave me opportunities that will continue to benefit me as I pursue my future career.
