Major:

Marketing Intern, Holidays by Heather

1.) How did you learn about this internship opportunity?

I was introduced to this internship opportunity by Abby Croft, a Liberal Arts Career Counselor.

2.) How has your internship helped build your skills and clarify your career goals?  How do you apply your Liberal Arts skills to your internship?

Throughout my internship, I gained valuable insight into the work process of being a designer in the marketing industry. This experience reinforced the importance of aligning my graphic design work with the company's branding guidelines. As a liberal arts student with foundational knowledge in design, including completing my first-year design coursework and a Photoshop class, I felt equipped to embark on this internship.

3.) What is a piece of advice you would give someone looking for an internship?

I would recommend that others in my major start the search for internships as early as the fall semester to enhance their prospects of securing one. It's also essential to have a well-prepared portfolio to present to potential employers.

4.) What specific responsibilities have you undertaken during your internship?

As a Graphic Design Intern for Holidays by Heather, I used Canva and Adobe Photoshop to create graphics such as Facebook posts, banners, map icons, pamphlets, and Itineraries to promote Ireland travel packages.

5.) In what ways has the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University supported your internship journey? How has your participating in our job-ready program specifically aided your professional development?

The College of Liberal Arts played a pivotal role in facilitating my internship by connecting me with my employer, ultimately leading to this valuable opportunity. I firmly believe that this internship has contributed significantly to my professional growth by enabling me to explore and study the practices of professional designers and apply this knowledge to create graphics for my internship.

6.) Could you highlight a standout aspect of your experience in this program that you find particularly noteworthy?

A particularly memorable moment was the positive reception of my design for the Irish Splendor Tour Facebook graphic, which Heather greatly appreciated. It was truly gratifying to know that I had created something that resonated strongly with my employer.
