Please find answers to the most popular questions for the online Master’s in Corporate Training and Communication program asked by many of our new online students.
WHAT IS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY DEGREE?
Currently, the College of Liberal Arts offers the Graduate Certificate in Strategic Communications and the MS in Communication. The College of Education offers a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Design and a MSEd in Learning, Design and Technology. The program faculty are collaborating on these topics to create an interdisciplinary degree called Master of Science in Graduate Studies with a major in Corporate Training and Communication. The degree combines courses from both programs for cohesive learning outcomes across education training and communication to build a 30-credit hour program.
DO YOU OFFER FINANCIAL AID?
For all Purdue Online programs, you’ll go through the same aid process and have similar options for aid as do other students.
If you are a degree-seeking student and meet financial aid citizenship requirements, you may be eligible for the Stafford and/or Grad PLUS Loan programs. To be considered for these, be sure to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and that you are enrolled at least half time. Explore these loan options.
HOW DO ONLINE CLASSES WORK? DO I HAVE TO BE AT MY COMPUTER AT A SPECIFIC TIME?
As a Purdue graduate student, you will be taking classes in an online environment. Instructors provide material, lectures, tests and assignments that can be accessed at any time. Your lectures are not time restricted, meaning you don’t need to be logged in to view your course material at a specific time.
However, all your course activities, assignments and exams must be completed by their respective due dates. You will need to view course lectures regularly to keep current.
HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I PLAN TO SPEND ON THE PROGRAM EACH WEEK?
Students complete 30 credits over 5 semesters with a time commitment of approximately 15-20 hours per week.
HOW WILL I BE GRADED?
Students are graded based on their performance in class. The courses we offer online will have various methods for grading depending on the specific requirements for a given class. Students can expect to experience any combination of homework, graded exam, final project, group work or graded reports. Purdue Grading Scale
CAN I TRANSFER ANY CREDITS INTO THE DEGREE?
Yes, up to 12 graduate-level credit hours are eligible for transfer if:
- They fit within the current curriculum
- Have not been used towards another awarded degree or certificate
- Received a B or better
To have courses reviewed for transfer, we will need an official transcript, the course name/number you wish to transfer and the course description. The Admissions Committee will then determine if the credits are applicable to the degree.
DO I NEED A BACKGROUND IN COMMUNICATION TO QUALIFY FOR ADMISSION?
You do not need an undergrad degree or work experience in communication to qualify for the program.
IS THE GRADUATE RECORD EXAM (GRE) REQUIRED FOR THIS PROGRAM?
No, the GRE or GMAT are not required. The Admission Committee reviews all other admission materials submitted to determine an admission decision.
HOW MANY TOTAL CREDITS ARE REQUIRED?
30 credit hours are required for this degree.
WHAT IS THE FREQUENCY OF STARTS FOR THIS PROGRAM?
This degree offers 3 starts: Fall (August), Spring (January) and Summer (May).
WHAT WILL MY DIPLOMA AND TRANSCRIPT SAY?
Your transcript will state: Master of Science in Graduate Studies (with a major in Corporate Training and Communication)
