Study Abroad
Purdue has lots of study abroad opportunities! The Lamb School recommends a few, however, that focus on communication and have instruction all in English. These are the programs that keep you on track for graduation and allow you to keep learning things relevant to your major, but in different cultural contexts.
Winter Programs:
Winter in Australia: Sydney, Australia
Sample Program Dates: December 2, 2026 – January 8, 2027

Estimated Program Cost: $4,915.70 (includes housing, tuition, required insurance, study abroad fee, multiple excursions, and an unlimited Sydney-region metro card that provides travel on trains, buses, and ferries in the Sydney region). Airfare and most meals will be on your own.
Program Benefits: Escape the cold of a West Lafayette winter to enjoy some summer down under! (Remember – it’s summer in Australia while it’s winter here in Indiana). We will be based in Sydney from Dec. 22, 2026 – Jan. 8, 2027 (departure), and packing a lot into the Winter term time period. The program will include: a welcome dinner, a full-day visit to Royal National Park for a hiking expedition and cookout, a tour of the Sydney Opera House, a stand-up paddle boarding lesson, and an unforgettable farewell dinner cruise on the Sydney Harbor.
Course Offerings:
- COM49730 (3 credits)Content Creation for Social Media, Sydney becomes our living lab. You’ll use excursions throughout Sydney and the surrounding region to learn how strategic ideas become compelling social content. You’ll sharpen your photography, video and copywriting skills while capturing one of the world’s most visually dynamic cities—and examine the role creators play in shaping how destinations are experienced and promoted. Learn how tourism organizations select and work with creators for destination campaigns, then put those insights into practice through a content project for a local tourism provider

Siena, Italy

Program Benefits: Enjoy a 4-week experience in the heart of Italy’s Tuscany and earn 6 credits!! Students will live, study and learn in picturesque Siena, Italy. Special excursions include trips to see how those cultural icons of pasta and cheese are made, and a winery tour and tasting.

- COM49502 Travel Writing and Promotion: Explore the world of travel bloggers and Instagrammers, guidebook writers, and what makes good travel writing and promotion.
- COM303: Intercultural Communication: Explore the complex relationship between culture and communication with a special session on Italian culture.

Summer in Scandinavia – Stockholm, Sweden
Program Dates: May 17 – June 14, 2027

Program Cost: “Estimated ~$4,950” (includes housing, tuition, required insurance, study abroad fee, multiple excursions, and an unlimited Stockholm-region metro card that provides travel on trains, buses, and ferries in the Stockholm region). Airfare and most meals will be on your own.
Program Benefits: Earn 6 hrs of course credit while taking in the beautiful landscapes of Stockholm, Sweden. Come diversify your communication skill-set and discover how travel writers and influencers create compelling content. Enjoy daily fika breaks and you’ll quickly see why Sweden and its Scandinavian neighbors are some of the happiest countries in the world. What are you waiting for?
Course Offerings:
- COM 49730: Content Creation for Social Media: Work with local tourism officials and companies to create compelling content, and learn how people turn their unique perspectives into thriving businesses.
- COM 478: Health Communication Campaigns: We will discuss with local healthcare professionals and Swedish cultural experts what makes Sweden one of the happiest countries in the world. The goal is to take what we’ve experienced in Sweden and develop a health campaign focused on mental wellbeing for the Purdue student population.

London, England

Program Benefits: Enjoy a 4-week experience in perhaps the greatest city in the world! Three-day weekends give you bonus time to explore London, and INCLUDED field trips are a trip to Brighton, a ticket to a West End theatre production, a pub tour, and Westminster Abbey.

Copenhagen, Denmark
The Lamb School works with the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark. This program is eligible for a need-based study abroad grant of up to $5000 from Purdue, and the program benefits include:
- Danish residency fees (up to $300) paid by the Lamb School – Danish residency gets you healthcare while you’re there
- Having a foreign experience in a city where almost everyone speaks English
- Living and studying in a world capital with access to Europe (easy public transportation and an airport with budget connections – less than $100/flight – to Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, the U.K., Austria, Turkey, and Iceland, to name a few)
- Independence: you have control of where you live, where you travel, how to study, what to eat, and how much to engage with local students and culture
- All instruction in English, mostly from European professors
- A truly international experience: other CBS students are from Denmark and all over Europe
- Many approved courses that transfer to Purdue as classes in your own communication plan of study.

Recommended semesters to study abroad in Copenhagen: fall of junior year, spring of junior year, or fall of senior year

Singapore
The Lamb School has exchange agreements with two universities in Singapore: National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.
Both programs are also eligible for a need-based study abroad grant of up to $5000 from Purdue. For Singapore programs, the Lamb School has $1000 scholarships available for up to 3 students per year (in addition to Purdue’s study abroad scholarships). Contact Professor Josh Boyd for details.
The programs’ benefits include:
- Studying at a world-class international university; both institutions are ranked among the top universities in Asia
- Living in the structure of a residence hall
- Having a foreign experience in a city where English is an official language
- Living and studying in a world capital with easy access to Asia (an airport with budget connections – less than $100/flight – to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar, India, Cambodia, and China, to name a few)
- All instruction in English
- Many approved courses that transfer to Purdue as classes in your own communication plan of study:

Brisbane, Australia
The Lamb School has exchange agreements with two universities in Brisbane, the city that will host the 2032 Summer Olympic Games: the University of Queensland (UQ) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
Both programs are also eligible for a need-based study abroad grant of up to $5000 from Purdue.
The programs’ benefits include:
- Studying at a world-class international university; UQ, for instance, is part of Australia’s version of the Ivy League.
- Living in the structure of a residence hall.
- Access to media equipment you can check out for projects.
- Beach access near Brisbane (both the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast are nearby).
- All instruction in English
- Many approved courses that transfer to Purdue as classes in your own communication plan of study.

Perth, Australia
Semester-long exchanges with Curtin University are back! And if you want to get AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE from Indiana, Perth is the place for you. It’s the only large city in Western Australia, and it provides access to a lot of outback adventures. Similar to Purdue, Curtin University is a science and engineering-focused university that also happens to have a strong communication program.
This program is also eligible for a need-based study abroad grant of up to $5000 from Purdue.
The program’s benefits include:
- Studying at a world-class international university.
- Living in the structure of a residence hall.
- Access to media equipment you can check out for projects.
- Beach access near campus.
- Outback adventures supported by university programs where students can sign up to join group activities—hiking, rock climbing, etc.
- All instruction in English
- Many approved courses that transfer to Purdue as classes in your own communication plan of study.
